Group B of Pillar Ⅱ on “the EU Model: economy, society and lay” held a workshop on “EU legal system and market economy order” on October 11-13, 2006 in Huairou, Beijing. The participants are scholars, experts, lawyers and judges and postgraduates from Beijing People’s High Court, Institute of European Studies of CASS, University of International Business and Economics and China Foreign Affairs University.

The workshop was chaired by Senior Judge Mr.Li Dayuan. And the two lecturers were Prof. Francis Snyder, from LSE and Dr. Cheng Hu, from Beijing People’s High Court.

The workshop was round the topics on the two methods of studying and understudying EU law, the EU legal system, the EU law and internal market, and the market economy and development of China’s legal system. After the three days’ lectures, discussions, and view exchange, all participants had got an intensive and comprehensive understanding of the EU law system; especially the judges and lawyers from the Beijing People’s High Court learned a lot, for whom this is a very rare opportunity to update their knowledge. The workshop set up an important platform not only for academic exchanges and especially for exchanges between scholars and practitioners.
