The Chinese Commerce Ministry said on Tuesday that it is "seriously concerned" about Europe's increased protectionism in the steel sector. In a statement, the ministry called on Europe to treat Chinese companies "fairly and impartially."
It also said it was ready to strengthen communications with the EU to tackle issues in the steel sector, and blamed the difficulties on a weak global economic recovery and shrinking demand.
The comments came after the European Commission imposed anti-dumping duties ranging from 65 to 74 percent on certain types of plate steel imports from China.
In recent years, European steel companies have accused Chinese producers of exporting steel products to Europe at improperly low prices.
