EU expresses condolences over China’s Yunnan earthquake
BRUSSELS, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) on Monday expressed condolences to the people of China over the earthquake in China’s southwest Yunnan Province.
"We express our deepest condolences to the people of China for the loss of life and devastation caused by the earthquake in Yunnan Province, in southwest China,” the EU said in a statement.
"Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and we express our heartfelt sympathies to those who have been injured. The European Union is closely following the situation and is ready to provide assistance as necessary," it added.
Around 400 people died after the 6.5-magnitude quake that struck Ludian county in Yunnan at 4:30 pm Sunday (BeijingTime). About 1.09 million people have been affected by the quake, with 1,800 wounded and 230,000 relocated.
