SOFIA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's caretaker Prime Minister Marin Raykov here on Monday evening opened the largest exhibition of Chinese contemporary art in Central and Eastern Europe ever.

"We now have the opportunity to discover contemporary Chinese art," Raykov said at the opening ceremony of the six-week exhibition entitled "New Sights in Chinese Contemporary Art".

"Today's exhibition gives me a reason to think that China is becoming one of the compelling centers of the contemporary modern art," Raykov said.

Raykov said that Sino-Bulgarian relations have developed in a very dynamic way in recent years, and bilateral cultural ties represented an important part of this dynamic.

Bulgaria is the first leg of this exhibition, which will then be displayed also in Romania, Macedonia, Serbia and the Czech Republic.

Selecting Bulgaria for the first stop on this tour showed the great attention paid by China for the development of cultural relations with Bulgaria, according to Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria Guo Yezhou.

At the same time, this choice showed the good results of the bilateral cultural exchanges, Guo said.

Xin Dong Cheng, curator of this exhibition, said it presents works of over 20 artists from three different generations.

He hoped its audience would be able to get acquainted with the new vision, a new mindset of the new Chinese art.

"Artists represented in this exhibition, provoke us to think more, dream more and learn more," Cheng said.
