Introduction to the Center for the Studies of Marxism and European Civilizations, Institute of European Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS)

 The Center for the Studies of Marxism and European Civilizations, Institute of European Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) (hereafter referred to as “the Center”) is a non-entity research center affiliated with the Institute of European Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Established in 2010, the Center's current Director is Prof. Feng Zhongping, who is also the Director of the Institute of European Studies. The Secretary General of the Center is Prof. Zhang Jinling, Director of the Department for European Social and Cultural Studies. Members of the Center come from several CASS research institutes.

 

Guided by the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Centre is committed to promoting the research on the exchanges and mutual understanding between Chinese and European civilizations and contributing to the prosperity of China's social sciences through the study of the discourses on European civilizations by the classic Marxist writers, as well as the new developments of European civilizations in the contemporary era.

 

Since its establishment, the Centre has organized various academic activities. Since 2019, the Center has been one of the major organizers of the “Comparative Study of International Societies and Cultures” Symposium. The Centre's researchers act as chief experts and preside over the Major Project of the National Social Science Fund of China “Studies on the Exchanges and Mutual Learning between Chinese and European Civilizations”.
